Volvo One Design Championships

A crazy weekend of racing in beautiful San Diego. 20 races with two throw outs, saw the winner Eric Shampain of Ullman sails walk away with 18points and first place, followed by Charlie Underwood (2nd) and Chris Beckwith (3rd).

Breeze was a steady 5-7 with gusts to 9 and lulls to 4.

Volvo One Design Championships

In a few short days we'll be headed to the VOD Championships in San Diego Ca. A few last minute tweaks to the boat and we are all set. Burberry Ocean Racing will be well represented with Carr sails powered by Goal Zero. 

We'll be posting race by race recaps, with 24 races scheduled in the series, as well as pictures and video. Stay tuned as we show you the boats, their setups and the latest go fast tricks.

They'll be another event at tantalums this Saturday. We'll have 12-15 boats racing, shoot some video as well as have a semi working demo of the furling genneker system.

Carr HT sail review

We've got the Volvo One Design tuned and ready. We'll be testing the Carr HT sails in this video. What we really liked about the Carr sails is the twist induced at the top of the stick. With the high aspect ratio of the main, it's really important that the sail cover not only the surface wind, but the wind five feet up off the water. There is considerable difference and we'll be covering the forces at work in a future video.

We were impressed with the sails over previous models. As you can see as the breeze built, the sails did their job as advertised. We didn't even bring the boat in to retune. Dooing so would have resulted in even greater performance gains with trim and speed.
